The Toolshed

Assess your sustainability impacts

Food sharing creates sustainability impacts. The Toolshed provides a simple and systematic way to identify, assess and communicate those impacts. Complete our starter survey to find out where you are having impacts. If you collect impact data you can progress to the main Toolshed questionnaire and easily generate full and summary impact reports. Expand your sustainability communications by sharing your summary report on our Talent Garden webpage and with the general public, local authorities, funding agencies and management boards. If you do not yet collect impact data get in touch and we can help you embed sustainability reporting in your organisation.

Our Solution

An affordable and accessible tool

We co-designed the Toolshed with food sharing initiatives internationally to meet the challenges they face with identifying, optimising and communicating their impacts. With the Toolshed we have made sustainability reporting relevant, easy and low cost.

How it works

Follow our step-by-step guide

The Toolshed guides you through our sustainability reporting process. Simply answer the questions relevant to your work and we’ll do the rest! You will get a full report of your impacts, an attractive pdf report summarising your key environmental, social and economic impacts and a spreadsheet of your results that you can use for optimising your impacts.

Step 1: Register

Tell us about your organisation, your goals and the type of food sharing you do. The Toolshed offers reporting solutions for all types of food sharing activities, whether you support collaborative growing, cooking, eating, or redistributing surplus food together or a combination of those activities.

1

Step 2: Starter Survey

To start your reporting journey, answer our simple set of 34 yes or no questions. This creates a preliminary analysis of how your work is helping to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will also help you decide whether you are ready to take the next reporting step yourself or whether you need further support from us to do this.

2

Step 3: Full sustainability reporting

We have over 100 unique indicators across social, environmental, economic and governance areas designed to capture impacts from all food sharing activities and map them onto relevant SDGs. You select only those which relate to your work and enter relevant qualitative (text based) or quantitive (numerical) data.

3

Step 4: Generate your reports

Submit your answers in the Toolshed and two reports are automatically generated – a full and a summary report. You will also receive a detailed spreadsheet with all your data to help you plan further data collection and monitor your impacts over time.

4

Step 5: Share your results

Disseminate your reports to participants and supporters through social media and websites. Include your sustainability reports in annual reviews and in funding applications. Post your summary report on our Talent Garden to showcase your impacts to other food sharing groups, local authorities, businesses and funders.
